FACTS ABOUT THE 2005 SEASON
Did you know that …
- Our 206 mobile hunters harvested 385 caribou - 382 of them were bulls !
- On the 382 bulls harvested in our mobile hunts, an impressive amount were trophy class racks, Boone & Crocket and Pope and young !
- The George River herd stayed all season in the Eastern part of Ungava. We hunted strictly large bulls from the Leaf River Herd in our Western territories.
- Friends Cameron Kirkpatrick and Fred March (7th time hunting with us) had their best trip ever. They harvested 4 major bulls on September 9th with their guide Henri Boivin.
- The biggest salmon of the season (20 pd +) was landed by Mr. Gunter Koch at pool #18, on August 19.
- Lots of 2 + and 3 + sea run fish were landed on the George River in 2005. Would it be the beginning of a new pattern…?
- More 15 to 18 pd salmon were landed on the George than in the last 10 years.
- Fishing on the Châteauguay River was fabulous: low water, strong hatches and lots of big brookies.
- During the last day of July, Jean, Sam and Mathieu landed 35 brookies in 90 minutes of fishing. The smallest were3 pd +. The largest were 5 pd +.
- Big Pike : for the past few years, we have been landing more and more pikes out of the little Châteauguay lake. This year, they were big. Andrew Gretsky landed a 18 pd and lost an even bigger one !

2005 - A PERFECT HUNTING SEASON
On July 26th, guide Samuel Paquet was coming back from a fishing excursion - 5 miles down river from Lee camp - with long time client Andrew Gretsky.
After taking a short break at the "Stage Pool", following the sandy shore of the Châteauguay river, he spotted a very fresh large bull track - this was the first sign of the 2005 migration.
Several hundreds of animals were spotted heading south during the next weeks. A good majority of them were LARGE MATURE BULLS.
These beautiful animals were coming from the North West. There were from the Leaf river heard. They invaded all our western territories and STAYED there until the end of September. During all this time, they did not really migrate. They were moving very slowly, feeding and bedding all day long, to get ready for the rut and for the difficult Northern Quebec winter.
THE RESULT WAS FABULOUS! Our hunters harvested an impressive amount of very large and fat animals. The majority of them had trophy class racks.
Camps 2, 8, 10, Pons, Châteauguay and Lee were operated all season long with a near perfect score of 2 bulls per hunter. Many clients tagged out early and had plenty of time to enjoy fantastic fishing for brookies and lake trout !
In one simple word, the season was… PERFECT!

THE GEORGE RIVER
Great news from the George River-Ungava Quebec
Are we getting back to the standards of the '70's ? We, at NORPAQ think that we are just starting to get the results of the banning of commercial fisheries in Greenland…
"I had a fantastic time fishing and caught more Atlantic Salmon in the few days spent on the George than I have caught in any five year period."
This comment of Dave Morton of Casco ME is a pretty good resume of what happened to our salmon fishermen during the 2005 season.
The first fresh fish of the season, a 12 ½ pound specimen, was landed by Marlies Koch of Germany, on August 17th. Obviously, the sea run began way before because there was already a significant amount of fresh fish in the river.
Despite difficult weather conditions and high water, the amount of fish hooked, lost and landed was very impressive this year. Here are a few examples :
- Gunter and Marlies Koch landed and released 35 fish in 26 days.
- Jerome Farnsworth raised 37 fish, he landed 20 of them in 12 days - the biggest : 18 pd.
- Richard and Mark Kondak raised 45 fish in 8 days. They landed 28 of them.
- Dean Bowers - first time Atlantic Salmon fisherman - landed 9 fish.

The Challenge
The George River is big, windy, cold, difficult to wade and further more you can't even see the fish in the pools… It is a real challenge for fishermen. Even in this difficult environment, TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED THIS YEAR ON THIS MIGHTY RIVER :

Important notes
- These numbers do not take into account the amount of salmon that were spotted all through the season - several were every day.
- They do not either consider the number of fish that were raised. For example, Dick and Mark Kondak raised 45 fish and landed 28 of them.
- The people combining fishing and hunting spend half of their time hunting.
The statistics are even more impressive when you realize that many of our clients spent a lot of time fishing for what we can now describe as World Class Trophy Brook Trout Fishing
