FACTS ABOUT THE 2006 SEASON
Did you know that …
MOBILE HUNT
- Our 164 mobile hunters harvested 311 caribou – 306 of them were bulls!
- We started the hunting season at mid-August: all our western territories were full of caribou, most of them being mature bulls. Camps 2, 8, 10, Pons, Châteauguay and Lee were very productive until mid-September.
- All our hunters from the Western operation were moved to the East (George River) during the last 15 days of September.
THE GEORGE RIVER AREA (Eastern operation)
- The best migration pattern in our 20 years.
- We started seeing Caribou on the George in early August. These herds stayed in the area through all season, just moving around, with different migration patterns from all directions: South to North, West to East, from everywhere to everywhere.
These caribou were in perfect physical condition: very fat and with very high quality racks.
SALMO
- Very high water conditions at the start (mid-August) and very low at the end (late September).
- First salmon landed by Mr. Günter Koch on August 16 th (14 pds), at pool 26.
- Our 27 fishermen hooked, landed and released (or kept) 191 salmon throughout the season, many of them were 15 to 18 pds.
COMBINATION TRIPS ON THE GEORGE
- These territories proved again to be the best for combining fishing and caribou and black bear hunting. The George River area is the best place in all Ungava where you can find this combination factor steadily year after year.
